NO-Xplode Who hasn't fallen victim to BSN's impressive marketing? NO-Xplode is probably the first pre-workout enhancer most will try due to its market presence. I am no different.

The first thing I noticed is of course the mixability. It does not fully dissolve and often leaves chunks at the bottom. The only way to get this all down is the mix and immediately drink while it is in suspension. The taste is mediocre. It gets bad at the bottom when you're eating those clumps.

On to the good stuff. The increase in energy and focus comes about 20 minutes after consumption. It's very noticeable and all I wanted to do was lift once this hit me. I had increased energy at the gym and was able to squeak out a few more reps. Noticed a bit more vascularity as well.

The only side effect I noticed was the occasional headache - probably due to the large amounts of caffeine.

Biggest downside to this product is its price. Without mentioning names, there are other pre-workout formulas that are, arguably, much better as well as cheaper.

Glutamine has had its ups and downs in the bodybuilding world. There was a point where it was recommended as a staple in every bodybuilder's diet. As new science continues to come out, and more user experiences and logs come out, however, its usefulness has come into question. I, myself, have not experienced any noticeable decrease in recovery time or muscle/strength gain whilst on glutamine. On the plus side, this stuff is cheap. A tub will run less than 20 bucks and can last months.

A benefit that I have noticed glutamine provides, while not directly bodybuilding related, is increased immune defense. I get sick far less frequently while taking glutamine. Even when both of my roommates and my girlfriend are all sick at the same time, I often get by unscathed.

Lipo-6 I decided to do a cycle of Lipo 6 on my most recent summer cut. The first thing I noticed after the initial dosage was the energy boost you get about 20 minutes after taking it. It's fairly substantial and it's definitely worth taking before the gym. Unfortunately it didn't last very long - about an hour. I was also noticeably warmer and sweating much more than normal. Also, I noticed a decrease in appetite whilst on the cycle.

As far as actual fat burning went, I feel that it helped me shed a few more pounds than I normally do on my cuts without it.

Unfortunately, there were some side effects. I would get random headaches (probably do the caffeine or increased BP). A potentially serious side effect I experienced was a significant raise in blood pressure. I went to the doctor for a routine checkup while on my cycle and my BP was 146/94 - the highest reading I've ever had. I stopped taking it on my doctor's advice and went back two weeks later - the reading was 125/80. I'm sure it won't have this effect on everyone, but it's something to watch out for.

100% Natural Whey Gold Standard I, like many others, fell prey to Optimum Nutrition's superior marketing and attractive labeling. Fortunately, they aren't hiding a sub-par product behind all that hype. 100% Whey Gold Standard is a high quality protein power, in my book. It has a great amino profile, lots of glutamine, and it tastes great to boot. On top of all that, it mixes effortlessly in a shaker bottle. I have tried extreme milk chocolate, double rich chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla ice cream. The only one I really didn't like was the vanilla - but I think I'm the same way with all vanilla protein. I'd recommend ON Whey to anyone - beginner or pro. Just remember to keep switching up protein products - keep your body guessing.
