Protein Bar (Quest Nutrition)

Quest bars have the best nutritional profile of any protein bar on the market - bar none. We've got 20g of protein, 4g non-fiber carbs, and no sugar alcohols or other junk. And most importantly, our bars taste better than any other bar. We're so confident that you'll agree that we let people order a single bar to try without having to commit to buying an entire box.

I used to love Quest bars - back when they were made with isomalto-oligosaccharides (abbreviated IMO). But over the course of the last year or so they began changing the recipe on flavor at a time over to "soluble corn fiber". I really don't like the new Quest bars much at all now.

Soluble corn fibre can also be called “corn syrup” or “corn syrup solids”, according to the manufacturer. That means this is syrup, but under a different guise. Also note that this is genetically modified (GMO). Avoiding GMOs is important to me, so this is a big negative. While the new bars taste *almost* the same as the old IMO bars, they have a different texture which is crumbly. But the thing I like least about them is that the new recipe causes me to have flatulence - very pungent flatulence. The old IMO bars never caused this problem.

So Quest bars have gone from a grade of "A" to an "F" from me.

Peanut Butter Supreme

If you've been on any site that reviews protein bars, you've likely seen a spam comment about how Bar X is fine, but Quest bars are better. In addition to those comments being obvious spam, they are false, because it would be impossible to find a bar that tastes worse than Quest. The bar did not taste like peanut butter, but rather like a bad, salty aftertaste had taken over the entire bar. That's a shame, as the profile is decent, with 220 calories, 20 g of protein, 15 g of fiber and 11 g of fat (only 1.5 g saturated). Not many vitamins and minerals, but only 3 g of sugar and a blend of whey protein isolate and milk protein isolate. Cliffs: good profile, bad taste.
